Making Shortcuts

• Click on the New Shortcut button, or select New from the File menu. This brings up the Shortcut Properties dialog:
• This is divided into three sections: Application, Document, and Name.
• Applications can be selected in two ways: The drop down box contains all the items that StarTap found on your Start Menu. Select one of these, and StarTap will fill all three fields in for you. (Incidentally, you can put documents on your Start Menu, and Windows CE will find the application to open it.)
• If the Application you want to add isn't on the Start Menu (maybe you've just installed it), use the Browse button in the Application section. This opens with a view of your root directory. Double tap on a directory to open it, and double tap on '..' to go back a level toward the root. This browse view shows only applications (".exe" files). When you find the file you're after, double tap on it (or select it and press "OK"). StarTap will fill in the name in the Application section.
• The Document section works similarly. Browse for the document you're looking for, double tap, and it's filled in. If there is an application registered for this file, StarTap will fill it in in the Application section. (As a matter of fact StarTap is pretty aggressive about filling in the fields automatically. If you want to use some oddball application to open a document, fill in the document field first, then set the application.)
• The Name section is all yours. StarTap will do it's best to fill in a meaningful name for this shortcut, but you can name it whatever you wish. Just tap in the edit box, and the keyboard (or Jot) comes up automatically. Fill in this field last, or else StarTap will overwrite what you put there.
• You can also create shortcuts to folders, that will be opened in Explorer when they're activated. First, use Explorer's Copy and Paste Shortcut to create a shortcut to the folder in the Start Menu (see Explorer page for details). Then, just create a shortcut as described above, selecting the new Folder Shortcut from the drop down box in Application. You can erase the shortcut from the Start Menu after you're done. StarTap doesn't need it anymore.
