How to develop confidence in TuBu
- First, do a complete synchronization with your desktop machine, so that your Appointments, Contacts, Messages, and Tasks are all duplicated on the desktop and the PPC. While it's connected, disable synchronization for one of the databases. Now disconnect the PPC, and do a full backup, with Files, Databases, and Registry all checked.
- Now, run Check on all three. It should show no changed files, and the Databases and Registry should both be OK. If you've run any other programs in the meantime, some files may show as changed.
- Use Restore to copy back the files. Verify that things are as they should be.
- Use Restore to copy back the Registry, and do a soft reset when it's done. Again, verify.
- Now, use Restore to copy back the database that you disabled in the first step. Put the PPC back in the cradle, and let the synchronization run its course.
- In Mobile Devices, select Tools / ActiveSync Status. The database that was disabled and restored should show something like "339 deletions, 339 changes". This is normal, and proper, and the best that we can hope for with current PPC synchronization. What it means is that all the entries that the desktop computer was used to seeing on the PPC have disappeared, and been replaced by an equal number of new entries. If this is similar to what your screen shows, then right click on the disabled database, and select Synchronize. It will erase the current entries from the Desktop, and copy the "new" entries from the PPC. The net effect is that you're back where you started.
- If you've gotten through these steps without incident, then you and TuBu should get along just fine. Keep your BackUp Set, and update it periodically. If disaster strikes, it should only take a few minutes to get back to where you were before. Do read the section on
